2 Week Checkup

Caroline was on her best behavior today. She weighed 7 pounds and 4 ounces. She is now 19 3/4 inches long. She has lost the "black thing that is going to make her pretty belly button" (as Austin Kieff tells all of us). Dr. Block said she is a lot like her big brother... a very calm baby (barely whimpers when her heal is stuck or when she is examined), extremely sensitive skin, and most likely allergies to boot. She did not like Dr. Block listening to breath via her back, but she did great with the rest of the exam. Her oxygen levels were great. They did decrease while nursing, but not enough to be of concern. So, I don't have to worry about her "blue mustache" as Austin Kieff calls it (she turns blue around her mouth when nursing and when she gets mad).

One more ounce and she will be at her birth weight. I will continue supplementing until she surpasses her birth weight. We were hoping to be several ounces over by today, but we are glad she is right at the mark! Also her weight is great for her height which is also a good thing. Dr. Block just wants to see her above her birth weight. The only negative result of our visit was confirmation that both of Caroline's tear ducts are blocked. This really isn't a problem, we just have to keep her eyes cleaned and massage her tear ducts several times a day. The ducts could be open by the next appointment or it may take several months. If they are not open by 12 months then a procedure is performed to open the ducts. I don't think this will be necessary...or at least I hope it will not be necessary!! Either way, it is a simple procedure :).

For those of you wondering, she goes for a follow-up with her cardiologist on May 27th. Also, we are still looking for temporary childcare if you have any suggestions!!

Temporary Childcare Needed

With Caroline's arrival, we are in need of a temporary childcare provider for her from the middle of May until her spot in daycare opens up in August. There is a possibility that a spot may open up if a parent takes their child out for the summer, but this is a remote possibility. We are also looking in to temporary placement in another daycare. If you have any suggestions, please email us!

Thanks!!

First Visit to Dr. Block

Caroline had her first visit to Dr. Block yesterday. She did great! She barely even cried when her heal was pricked. Dr. Block was not very pleased with the continued weight loss or the degree of her jaundice. We have instructions to supplement with formula and pedialyte to help with dehydration and hopefully improve her bilirubin levels (which continue to climb). We go back on Friday!

I promise to post pictures soon...

Caroline has a few problems with her heart, but we were able to bring her home today. She will be monitored by her pediatrician and if all goes well follow-up with her cardiologist in a few months.

Baby Caroline's Arrival

After my appointment today, arrival plans have changed. We will be at the hospital tomorrow at 12:00 to begin induction. Dr. Logan wasn't pleased with me or Miss Caroline and wants to be proactive.

Wish us luck!!

Baby Update

We have GREAT news!! Miss Caroline (and it was confirmed again today she is a little girl!!) is doing much better than initially thought. She scored much higher on her biophysical profile than expected. Her lungs are better and her heartbeat was more regular. As long as my blood pressure stays in check (it was great today), she will come on the 20th as planned. Hopefully there will not be anymore scares!!

Thank you so much for your prayers! We cannot wait to introduce our baby girl to everyone!!
