Austin Kieff Update

Austin Kieff did not have a very good night. I was the Miss Zion Chapel Pageant (congratulations to Lindsey, Shelby, Whitney and Aryn!) and helped clean up afterwards. My cell battery was dead, so my mother could not get up with me to let me know he was not doing well. When I arrived home, Austin Kieff was burning up with fever, wheezing pretty bad and having a little trouble breathing. I asked him how he had been for his Daddy and Grandmama and the poor little guy said "been ugly." Well, of course he had not been ugly, he had been sick and crying because he did not feel well.
Currently he is asleep. He and I were up most of the night. He had a lukewarm bath this morning to try and help break his fever. So far the fever is down to 101.3. Hopefully, it will continue to decrease.
I will update later today if he is improving. Usually after a couple of doses of antibiotic he is doing better. He had his third dose this morning, so I am hoping for a better afternoon!

Special Prayer Request

David has a ten year old cousin, Cassidy Maddux, who has been diagnosed with cancer. Because the tumor is flat instead of round, it is inoperable. The tumor is affixed to her optic nerve. She will begin treatment soon and we will update as we receive more information. Please remember her in your prayers.

Trip to the Saturday Clinic

Austin Kieff took his first trip to the Saturday clinic today. He saw Dr. Lawrence who told us he has an ear infection, a sinus infection, an unspecified viral infection which along with the sinus infection has exacerbated is asthma. Sounds like fun huh? We are to continue his albuterol every few hours until he has finished at least three days of Orapred. He is on Vantin for ten days.

Sick Again?

Austin Kieff started running a fever around 3:00 this morning. He seemed fine this morning, but spiked another fever this afternoon and has been very clingy and tired tonight. He is a mild cough and has been wheezing, but that is not anything out of the ordinary. Please keep him in your prayers.

Just a Swingin'

Easter Sunday Pictures

I found one!
These two boys had the best time Saturday night and Sunday. They love each other so much and have the best time playing together. Austin Kieff cried for Jacob Saturday night when we left mother's. He was so happy to see Jacob Sunday morning that he caught Jacob in a bear hug.

Sunday morning before Sunday School
Isn't he a handsome fella?
Our family photos did not turn out so well.

How sweet is this? Egg in one hand...ball in the other!

Easter Egg Hunt

Sorry for the sideways shots, but I am not sure how to turn them without using my photo software. This was taken before we left for the Egg Hunt.
Sitting on the sidewalk waiting for the Egg Hunt to begin.
Playing on the playground where the toddler hunt was located.
Driving with his friend Hudson.

Happy Resurrection Day!

We are so thankful to celebrate what our Sunday School teacher appropriately calls Resurrection Day. We hope you and your family had a wonderful time celebrating and spending time with each other.

A few random thoughts...

  • In Sunday School I was reminded that it truly is a small world. While I do not really know his family, the youth/family life minister at FBC-Troy is from Leroy, Alabama. When he said that my ears perked up. My father graduated from Leroy, Alabama and I spent quite a bit of time with my Aunt Bob, Uncle Kirk, and Cousins Eleanor, Angela, Maggie and Charles in Leroy before we moved away. My second cousin Lacey was even the mascot there for quite some time. Now she is the first female mascot at Southern Miss.
  • I cannot wait to share our family photos from today...but that is exactly what I must do!! Our camera is at my mom's, but never fear pictures will be posted tomorrow night.
  • My mom is in Pensacola with my grandparents. I wish we could have traveled down with her, but hopefully we will make a visit next month.
  • Austin Kieff was stung by a red wasp twice today on his index finger. His little hand is still swollen. He is a trooper. He never even cried until we came inside to take some Benadryl and put some ice on it. He was furious about coming inside :).

We hope you have a great week!

Happy Easter

We just wanted to wish all of our friends and family a Happy Easter! We hope all of you have a wonderful and safe weekend. Thankfully, we are not traveling. We are looking forward to Easter service starting with sunrise service at my mother's church and Sunday School and Worship at the First Baptist Church of Troy.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

This recipe is courtesy of my friend Rhonda. She made this for my birthday today. It is WONDERFUL, especially when it is just a little warm!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

2 rolls of choc chip cookie dough
2 cups of sugar
3 eggs
1 8 oz box of cream cheese

Cut one roll of cookie dough into ¼ inch slices and place in bottom of 9X11 pan. Mix sugar, eggs and cream cheese in separate bowl. Pour over cookie dough. Cut remaining roll of dough and place over mixture. Cook in oven at 350* for 45 minutes.

The Grocery Game

If you are tired of spending too much money on groceries and toiletries (this sounds a bit like an infomercial...) check out The Grocery Game. I have been doing this off and on for several months and definitely recommend giving it a try. You can try it for 4 weeks for only $1 (if you decide to try it out please list me as your referral laura@davidandlaurajordan.com). Tonight I was so excited because I purchased diapers for 57% less than what I usually pay. Of course all deals are not this great. And you can do it yourself with out subscribing to the List, but the List makes saving money a lot less time consuming and it has allowed me to save more. Tonight was one of my favorite nights because I loaded up on FREE stuff-colgate total advanced toothpaste, fusion razor, crest pro-health mouthwash, wipes, and one pack of pampers (52 count size 4). How great is that!

I plan to post much more on my new hobby, so stay tuned!

Happy 28th Birthday!

Today is my 28th birthday. It has truly been a wonderful day from the emails from friends and family to the party my co-workers had at work. A few of close friends even took me out to lunch...lunch was great...the singing happy birthday in Spanish, wearing a big sombrero AND having whipped cream smeared on my face was not. But, we all had a good laugh and I shared my dessert with everyone. I received some really nice gifts (expect pictures soon!) including two beautiful picture frames, an Alabama mug, an elephant, a desk calendar and a coupon organizer (I will be posting more on my new hobby later this week).

Tonight we did one of my favorite things...SAVE MONEY! I purchased a little over $100 worth of diapers and toiletries and only paid $52.47. How great is that?

I hope your day has been as blessed as mine!

Easy Cheese Straws (wafers)

1 lb butter
1 lb sharp cheese
5 c all purpose flour
2 c rice crispies
1 t paprika
1/2 t crushed red pepper

Allow butter and cheese to warm to room temperature. Mix butter and cheese together (it works best if you use your hands to mix). Mix in paprika and red pepper. Mix in flour a little at a time. Mix in rice crispies a little at a time.

Roll in to small balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Press with a fork to flatten. Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes (depends on size of the ball).

New Church Home?

David, Austin Kieff and I have been visiting First Baptist Church in Troy, Alabama. David and I have been looking for a church with couples our age. We like my home church, but we were not really growing there. FBC has several children Austin Kieff's age and several couples for David and I to get to know. There is actually a Sunday school class for me and David! We think we may have found a new church home, but are continuing to pray about this decision.
